The Importance of Well-Child Visits: Understanding Routine Checkups for Children

Health can be fickle. Some people seem to go through life without ever getting sick. Others seem to be constantly bedridden. Many different factors can determine who will and will not get sick. Ultimately, it’s crucial to work with doctors to keep an eye on your children. If you need a children's doctor that serves Raleigh NC, get in touch with Raleigh Children and Adolescents Medicine. Our staff of medical doctors can perform a check-up and answer your questions and concerns.

Why Wellness Exams are a Must

It’s recommended that you take your child to see the doctor regularly. How often your child should partake in a wellness exam depends on their age, any conditions they might have, and other factors. Toddlers and infants typically undergo more check-ups than teenagers. Older kids may need to have a general check-up only once per year.

Either way, wellness exams are crucial. In medicine, if a condition is caught early, the prognosis is often much better. Further, some diseases and conditions could affect your child’s development. If your child has a learning or social disability, for example, it could impact their performance at school. This, in turn, could have long-lasting consequences on your child’s life.

The Basics of Wellness Exams

During a wellness exam, your doctor and the medical staff at the clinic will measure various stats, such as weight and blood pressure. They will also make sure your child is up to speed on vaccinations. Often, doctors will ask many questions that are designed to catch red flags of various conditions. Additionally, you may have questions or concerns that you want to ask. You should feel free to ask questions and seek out answers as needed.

Wellness exams typically don’t take very long to perform. However, they are crucial. A few minutes now could prevent serious if not life-altering situations later on. As such, it is important to undergo examinations as your doctor recommends. Also, if your child is sick right now or something has you worried, you don’t have to wait until the wellness exam is scheduled to see your doctor. Get in touch with them ASAP.
